Seaside Weddings

My wife and I visited Cromer at the weekend. Despite living in Norwich, neither of us had been to the north norfolk coast properly before now! We visited in lockdown, but most things were still closed so we didn’t get to enjoy it really. This time the streets were filled with families queuing for chips or ice creams, and there were even a few enjoying the sea! We had a few beers in the various pubs around the town (loved the Red Lion), and played some arcade games, as well as taking in the pier (and pointing out as many cute dogs as we could) and it got me thinking about seaside weddings…

Norfolk has a lot of coast to offer, from quaint little villages (ideal for traditional or pagan celebrations) to something a little livelier, like Gt Yarmouth - you could recreate your own Las Vegas! A coastal wedding also offers something different for your photographs too - cliff tops, long beaches, crashing waves or colourful beach huts all make for great backdrops. The sea can also be a magical place for some people (my wife is always looking for a lucky hag stone or fossil when we walk on the shore), what better way to add a little enchantment to your special day?

Here are my top tips for a seaside wedding -

  • Think outside the box - get some candyfloss or play on the arcades for some of your couples photos, bright colours make for great pictures, and you’ll have a laugh too!

  • Tell your hair stylist - (and makeup artist) that you may take pictures on the beach, then they can factor that into your look and make sure it lasts all day

  • Tell the guests - if they’re expected to be on the beach they may want to bring suitable shoes for the sand or pebbles!

  • Make the most of your location -  serve fish and chips, simple, great on a budget and a crowd pleaser!

  • Don’t worry about the weather - a good photographer can get the best shot, rain or shine.

Love the idea but can’t get to the coast?

  • Look at lakeside or riverfront venues

  • Bring the sea to you using pebbles and shells as table decorations

  • Have deck chairs and windmills for your guests to pose in

  • A vintage ice cream van is a favourite with young and old guests alike!

Whatever your idea, your suppliers can help make it happen - and at the end of it all, you’ll have some unforgettable memories (and hopefully no sunburn!)
